Day One — The Beaches

Your guide meets the morning train at Bayeux station, and the day runs the complete American sector: Sainte-Mère-Église, where the 82nd and 101st Airborne dropped into the dark hours before the landings; Utah Beach, the link between the paratroopers and the sea; and Omaha — quiet and peaceful today, with the German positions still visible on the bluffs, and the story told where it happened.

Pointe du Hoc keeps its craters and bunkers exactly as the Rangers left them; Arromanches keeps the remains of the Mulberry harbor offshore. And the day ends at the American Cemetery above Omaha — 172 acres, more than 9,000 graves precisely mapped, administered by the American Battle Monuments Commission. Then, instead of a three-hour ride back to Paris, you’re ten minutes from dinner in Bayeux — and your guides, François and Mathieu among them, live here and know exactly which restaurants deserve your evening.

Day Two — Mont St. Michel

An 8 a.m. departure brings you to the island abbey the archangel Michael is said to have demanded of Bishop Aubert in his dreams. Climb the Grand Degré staircase to the abbey, walk the Gothic halls at the top, and take the village lanes at your own pace — surrounded by Europe’s highest tides, with up to 15 meters between high and low water. You’re back in Bayeux by about 4 p.m. for the evening train, in Paris in time for a late dinner. Prefer a free morning in Bayeux instead? Frequently Asked Questions

Why not do D-Day and Mont St. Michel in one day?

Some companies sell it; we don’t recommend it. The sites sit two hours apart, and a single day gives each about half the time it needs. The overnight costs one hotel night and returns a full experience of both — plus an evening in Bayeux most guests count as a highlight.
